Very large turnout for practice
today. I would estimate there were 60 people in attendance today.
There are a few new
pictures in the photo gallery.
Moose was out 30 minutes before the scheduled practice time.
Popovic, Havelid, and Thorburn came out and practiced with Moose and
Steve Weeks.
Boulton was trying out a new stick. He came in on Kari before the
official practice started and took a shot with the new stick and
then looked at it with disbelief. Apparently he could not believe
the power of the shot from the new stick. He even skated over to
Kari to ask him how fast/hard the shot was. Kari looked at the
stick. It looked like an Easton stick but I could not tell for sure.
(He ended up breaking it after the official practice was over and
did not seem too happy about it).
First drill was a passing drill within the lines (which I will list
later) within the defensive zone and then carrying the puck out of
the zone.
Click here to see it on video.
Second drill was a passing practice where D men would get puck to
forwards who would take the puck to the other zone and cycle while
shooting on net.
Click here for a video of this
drill.
Last drill was the normal 3 on 2 drill where the forwards would gain
the zone and shoot/try to cycle against the 2 D men.
Here are the offensive player lines today....note Popovic was
playing as a forward instead of D today:
Kovy / White / Recchi
Slava / Perrin / Hossa
Dupuis / Holik / Popovic
Boulton / Thorburn / Larsen
No real change in defensive pairings
The practice only lasted 30 minutes officially. Most all of the
players were off the ice after 45 minutes.\
After the official practice Kovy and a few other players were on the
opposite side of the ice practicing their SO moves.
Click here for a video of Kovy.
Several people asked for pictures/video of the autograph sessions
after practice.
Click here for a video of the
players coming off the ice and signing autographs:
Here are some video clips of Perrin and Slava doing a shooting
drill:
Clip #1,
Clip #2.
DW was on the ice but Slater was not. He was the only player who did
not practice today.
Observations:
1. Mood was upbeat even though we have lost 2 games in a row.
2. Popovic is apparently going to be
playing forward or at least was practicing as a forward today.
3. Several players were using new
sticks today which is not unusual except that there were several
players trying out new sticks today.
4. Hoss has not been as good at
scoring and has not shown the types of moves at practice that he has
shown in previous years. His play at practice mirrors what you see
in the games. 5. Zhitnik was
good today in the drills where he had to defend against a forward
who was coming into the zone to shoot on goal
